Boy, 5, dies after wall collapsed throughout kid’s birthday celebration at loopy golf course

A young boy has died after a wall collapsed during a child’s birthday party at a crazy golf course.

Paramedics raced to Sidcup Family Golf in southeast London at around 5.40pm on Sunday. 

The boy, five, was airlifted to hospital where he was described as being in a life-threatening condition. 

A six-year-old girl was also injured in the collapse but has since been discharged.

Witnesses reported that the boy had been attending a children’s birthday party. He is thought to have sustained a head injury.

It is not known what wall on the premises collapsed and police are investigating. 

Today, Sidcup Family Golf confirmed that the boy had passed away.

A spokesperson said: ‘We are deeply saddened to hear that the child injured on Sunday has tragically passed away.

‘Our heartfelt condolences go out to the child’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

‘We are co-operating fully with the authorities as they continue their investigation and are providing every possible support to those affected by this tragedy.’

The premises remains closed on Wednesday. 

A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘Police were called at 17:44hrs on Sunday, 9 November to a business premises on Sidcup By-Pass, Chislehurst to reports a child had been injured by a collapsing wall. 

‘Officers attended and paramedics were treating a five-year-old boy. He was taken to hospital by the London Air Ambulance in a life-threatening condition. 

‘Sadly, he died in hospital on Tuesday, 11 November. His family are being supported by specialist officers and ask for privacy during this difficult time. 

‘A six-year-old girl was also injured and has since been discharged from hospital.

‘Enquiries are ongoing and officers are working with the local Health and Safety Inspector.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 5.39pm on 9 November to reports of an injured person in Sidcup Bypass, BR7.

‘We sent ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

‘We treated two children at the scene, one of whom was seriously injured. Both were taken to hospital.’

Sidcup Family Golf, which provides driving range facilities and golf lessons as well as crazy golf, confirmed its closure on its site: ‘Sidcup Family Golf is closed today following an incident on site.

‘Our thoughts are with those affected. We appreciate your understanding at this time and will share further updates when appropriate.’ 

Posts on social media yesterday stated the site was ‘all locked up’ with a police presence at the scene.
