A man was spotted sprinting into oncoming traffic on a motorway whilst being pursued by police officers.
The drama unfolded just after 9.30am on Tuesday (November 11) following several police cars being witnessed boxing in a highways maintenance vehicle in a bid to halt a driver.
Video footage of the incident reveals at least three vehicles surrounding the target on a section of the M1 near Rugby, Warwickshire.
The clip then shows the suspect – clad in a black hoodie – already dashing into traffic on the opposite side of the motorway’s central reservation.
Coppers can be observed giving chase before he seemingly attempts to open a car door.
Jack Airey, 21, a construction worker from Warminster, Wiltshire, filmed the drama.
He said: “We were driving along the M1 and heard a bunch of sirens behind us and they came flying past us.
“There was a police car in front and a road traffic car and then there were three police cars behind, a couple undercover.
“There were all going for it and we drove a bit further and they had pitted the traffic car over and boxed him in.
“The guy got out the car, jumped over the barrier into oncoming traffic and the other side and officers were chasing him.
“The guy then attempted to get into someone’s car at the end.”
Thames Valley Police has been approached for comment.
