Deborah Galvin has set up a Wetherspoons Carpet Appreciation Facebook page and is determined to get round all 800 boozers to snap their floor
Pattern nut Deborah Galvin is going on Britain’s craziest pub crawl – to take snaps of Wetherspoons carpets.
The pub chain has a different weave in each of its 800 boozers and Londoner Deborah is on a mission to grab a photograph of the lot. So far, she’s ticked off 108 watering holes after reading in the Wetherspoon News that each pub has its own unique carpet design.
Deborah said: “I first found out about the carpets in an article in Wetherspoon News which I read while visiting Wetherspoon’s pubs during caravan holidays. I enjoy visiting the pubs and taking photos of the various carpets. My most recent visit was to The Velvet Coaster, in Blackpool.”
She added: “I love the history of the pub names and what the buildings were previously.”
Deborah’s visits have taken her from her local, Walham Green in Fulham, to pubs all over the south coast, London and north west England – and even to The Linen Weaver in Cork, Ireland, now no longer a Wetherspoon pub.
Her niece, Sally Ede, has accompanied her aunt on several of the visits.
She said: “My aunt Deborah is a huge Wetherspoon enthusiast. She spends her weekends seeking new pubs to visit – often bringing us all along when we are on holiday – and has a wonderful tradition of photographing the carpets. “
“She now has a collection of more than 100 carpet photos.”
Deborah also shares her snaps on a Facebook page called Wetherspoons Carpet Appreciation Society.
While the UK have an obsession with the iconic boozer, Americans don’t have the same style of pub over the pond.
However, American influencer Amber Kacherian visited one recently and was full of praise for the British chain.
Following a meal at the Botwell Inn in Hayes, the TikToker described the dinner in two succinct words – “Authentic” and “cultural”.
