An NFL star is fighting for his life after he was involved in a shooting in New York.

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot and critically wounded in Midtown on Sunday morning – and he remains in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital.

According to police, the shooting took place at around 2am on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue. And the New York Post are now reporting the individual shot was the 29-year-old.

The shooting is said to have occurred after a verbal dispute escalated, eyewitnesses told CBS New York. There have been no arrests so far as police investigate the shooting.

Boyd, 29, only moved to New York this year after making his name with the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the 2019 season.

However, having signed a one-year deal with the Jets, Boyd was placed on injured reserve in August with a shoulder injury.

Across his NFL career, in which he’s also spent time playing for the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans, he has made 81 appearances and with six starts.

He has made 105 total tackles, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and three tackles for loss.

The Jets aren’t in action on Sunday, having been blown away by a Drake Maye-led New England Patriots on Thursday evening.

“I don’t think anything has surprised me,” Maye, who has inspired their turnaround in form and received MVP chants this season, said.

“When you put the work in, and we have good players and good coaches, you are going to get a result that you want.”

The Jets, who are 2-8 and bottom of the AFC East, are next in action next Sunday, when they’re on the road to Baltimore to clash with the Ravens.
