Despite centuries of fierce rivalry across the Channel, more than half of people quizzed admitted they want to hail from France. They believe French people have the sexiest accents
Britons would choose to be French if they had to swap nationalities, a shock survey claims.
Despite centuries of fierce rivalry across the Channel, more than half of people quizzed admitted they want to hail from France.
Some 59% reckon the French are classier than us, while 69% confess they have a level of sophistication that we Brits aspire to.
French was followed by Italian, Spanish and German, the research commissioned by supermarket giant Asda found to mark Beaujolais Day on Thursday.
An Asda spokesperson said: “It’s clear that Britain’s love affair with France shows no signs of cooling. From food and fashion to that irresistible accent, we’re embracing all things Gallic – and Beaujolais Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate in style.
“Our Beaujolais Beauty Bar will pop-up in Asda Swansea for one night only, offering our local customers free in-store makeovers that are sure to impress.”
The poll also found 65% reckon French women are among the classiest in the world, while 48% think the blokes like ex-footie hunks David Ginola and Thierry Henry have the sexiest accents. And croissants came out on top on what we love about the nation followed by wine, cheese and romance.
Other things we like about our Gallic cousins include the cafe culture, red lipstick and perfume Chanel no5.
Beaujolais Day is celebrated on the third Thursday of November and is popular in Swansea, thanks to ex-Wales rugby captain Clem Thomas in the 1960s who owned a wine bar.
Up to 73% of girls from Swansea will be getting their glad rags on and celebrating Beaujolais Day.
And 28% of UK men and women quizzed said they will celebrate on Thursday.
