Choc-mad Brits are buzzing this week after a long-lost retro treat made a shock return to supermarket shelves.

Shoppers were left doing a double-take in Marks & Spencer after the long-anticipated St Michael’s Take 4 bar finally landed in stores. The chunky choc throwback – which bears more than a passing resemblance to a KitKat – first hit shelves back in the 1980s but then vanished after barely a year on sale.

Now it’s back from the confectionery cemetery and fans are losing their minds online. M&S whipped up a frenzy last month when it teased the comeback on Instagram, with shoppers wasting no time on giving their thoughts.

The four-finger wafer bar, which the retailer claims is “perfect beside a warm brew,” is clearly a hit with customers. The revived classic will only set you back a mere £1.25.

Announcing the comeback, M&S posted: “We’re re-introducing another St Michael sensation, with this simply *cracking* chocolate bar from our archives, in its full retro-inspired glory.

“We’re re-introducing another St Michael sensation, with this simply *cracking* chocolate bar from our archives, in its full retro-inspired glory. “First sold in the 80’s, our Take 4 bar contains four fingers of crispy wafer, enrobed in delicious thick milk chocolate. Simply snap apart, dunk in your cuppa and enjoy! Hands up who remembers the original?”

One excited fan gushed: “LOVE IT! We’re all in the nostalgia these days of happier times and to see the nostalgic wrapping is a joy!” Another was all about the packaging, declaring: “Love the retro look. Bringing back the classics.”

Plenty of shoppers were reliving their childhood too, with one saying: “Oh wow, I used to love these as a kid.” Another simply added: “This looks delicious.”

The good news also prompted users to beg for the return of other fan favourites. One said: “Pretty please can you bring back the Fizzy Rainbow Colin the Caterpillar sweets?? They were THE BEST!!”

A second added: “Bring back the Sparks bar and the Neapolitan chocolates in Beatrix potter characters.”

Elsewhere, sugar lovers were left heartbroken earlier this year when a popular chocolate was discontinued after almost 60 years on the shelves.

The dark chocolate version of Toblerone’s iconic bar was given the axe as manufacturers of the famous triangular treat Mondelēz International confirmed the 360g product would no longer be sold in the UK.

The company – which also makes Oreos, Dairy Milk and Milka – said the “difficult decision” was made as they continue to invest in Toblerone. Thankfully, this indicates that the standard milk chocolate version of the bar is going nowhere.
