Bhuna boffinf have hailed a ‘miracle herb’ with amazing effects it has on the body like boosting metabolism and drastically cutting inflammation which puts stress on our bodies
Scoffing spicy curry can help shed the pounds, experts say. Black cumin, a spice commonly used in creamy korma and paneer dishes, stopped fat cells forming and improved cholesterol levels.
Bhuna boffs have hailed it as a ‘miracle herb’ because of the amazing effects it has on the body. It can boost metabolism and drastically cut inflammation which puts stress on our bodies and leads to illnesses.
Experts say the spice, regularly used in Indian cooking, could be used in other types of dishes too such as hearty soups and salads. Eggheads at Osaka Metropolitan University in Japan tested the spice on 42 people with high cholesterol.
Those who munched 5g of black cuminseed powder – roughly a tablespoon – every day for eight weeks saw blood fat levels plummet. The spice also blocked rogue fat cells which are linked to heart problems and early death from growing or forming at all.
Study author Professor Akiko Kojima-Yuasa said: “This study suggests black cumin seeds are useful as a functional food for preventing obesity and lifestyle-related diseases.”
It comes after a previous study found spicy grub can help you lose weight because it makes you eat less. Those who gobble a super spicy dish such as vindaloo ate a fifth less than those who had a milder meal, researchers found.
Dr Paige Cunningham, of Pennsylvania State University, US, which tested 130 diners said: “Increasing spiciness slowed people down.
“We know from other research slowing down eating typically reduces how much people eat.”
Other research has shown curry to be something of a super food, with scientists claiming it can help folk dodge cancer and prevent Alzheimer’s.
