Dubai Airshow fireball airplane crash as jet plummets in entrance of horrified onlookers

A plane crashed in front of horrified onlookers during the final Dubai Airshow with rescue operations underway.

A fighter jet, believed to be an Indian Tejas, crashed during the afternoon demo. Rescue operations began immediately and the show was temporarily stopped. Visitors were directed back to the exhibition area after witnessing the horror.

Rescue operations were carried out within minutes of the incident and authorities have worked to ensure the safety of visitors. It’s not yet known if the pilot ejected, or if anyone was injured in the incident.

After the fireball impact thick black smoke rose over the Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central as a crowd of spectators watched. Sirens soon sounded after the crash.

The city-state’s second airport was hosting the biennial Dubai Air Show, which has seen major aircraft orders by both the long-haul carrier Emirates and its lower-cost sister airline FlyDubai.
