HMP Isle of Wight assault as ‘3 jail officers stabbed’ as 2 rushed to hospital

Three prison officers have allegedly been stabbed by a prisoner with two being rushed to hospital.

The incident at HMP Isle of Wight occurred yesterday (November 20) in the Inpatient Unit on the prison‘s Albany site.

Two of the the three allegedly attacked by the inmate were taken to St Mary’s Hospital, reports The Island Echo.

Reports confirmed by local media believe the 32-year-old man sustained facial injuries and a 28-year-old man received injuries to his right arm.

The third prison officers only suffered minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) told The Island Echo said: “Attacks on our staff are cowardly and unacceptable which is why we push for the strongest possible punishments”.

The MoJ will also not be commenting further at this time.
