A group of revellers has faced a barrage of online criticism after running up a staggering £88,000 tab at a posh Manchester nightclub.

Continental Club in Manchester, situated on South King Street close to Deansgate in the city centre, boasted about the astronomical bill by posting the receipt across social media, declaring it ‘record breaking’. The venue posted on Instagram: “RECORD BROKEN. Some come to sip…others come to set records. The biggest table spend to EVER take place in a club in Manchester.”

The extravagant order featured multiple Dom Perignon Rosé Magnums at £2,000 each, Hendricks at £200 a bottle, Hennessy XO priced at £750 and Red Bulls costing a hefty £54.

The colossal bill totalled over £80,000, with the 10% service charge alone reaching an enormous £8,053.60, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Certain observers have acknowledged the positive impact for the establishment and its employees, with one user remarking: “£88k bill and a great £8k tip! Wowzers. Lucky staff.”

Another chimed in: “Good for the club also, somebody will want to beat that bill, it won’t be me lol”.

One commenter hoped: “Let’s hope the staff get the tip! ! !”.

While some have noted the advantages for the venue, others have highlighted the stark contrast of splashing such vast sums in a bar whilst homeless individuals sleep rough on the streets outside.

One disgruntled observer remarked: “Wonder how many hungry homeless people they ignored on the way home”, while another chimed in with: “It’s amazing how easily a few grand can disappear across a bar tab in Manchester. Meanwhile, just outside on the cold, wet pavement, there are men and women who literally dedicated their lives to protecting this country.

“I can only hope the people spending thousands inside showed even a fraction of that generosity to those who actually earned it.”

Other comments echoed the sentiment, one saying: “Sickening amount children in poverty and families without a home. If I had it I would not spend it in a bar like this I’d have more pleasure helping the needy.”
