The victim is being treated for serious burns injuries, while a man was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries
A stunned witness has recalled the horrific moment she heard a woman screaming in the street after reportedly being set on fire in broad daylight. It is understood the shocking incident, which happened in the Republic of Ireland this morning (November 25), involved petrol being poured over the woman before she was set alight.
The Irish Mirror reports that the woman was rushed to Tallaght Hospital, where she is being treated for serious burns injuries. Additionally, a man was taken to hospital for injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening. Irish police are treating the incident as assault.
Sources say the woman answered the door to her attackers and Gardaí are investigating the incident as connected to a drugs gang in the area.
Describing what she saw outside her window in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin, Co Dublin, the witness said: “I heard screaming. I looked outside and saw her standing in the front garden, completely in flames.
“Her partner was trying to put the fire out and he was on the phone to the emergency services. She was on fire from the top down to her stomach.”
The incident occurred at approximately 10.10am on Tuesday. The scene has been preserved for technical examination. It is believed the injured woman’s partner was also hurt during course of the incident, trying to put out the flames.
Members of South Dublin County Council were seen attending the scene this afternoon, and examining damage to the front door.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established In Clondalkin Garda Station. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either incident to come forward and contact them.
Anyone who was in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin between 9.30am and 10.20am this morning and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
