Police have issued an update as a body has been found in their search for a missing 78-year-old woman. The body was found in woodlands in East Suffolkon Monday, November 24 after police expanded their search for missing Rushmere St Andrew woman Christine Murton after she was reported missing two weeks ago.

Christine is believed to have left her house mid-morning on Wednesday, November 12, and was reported as missing that evening with CCTV footage released by the police showing Christine walking along a footpath on the edge of Nacton village and then heading in the direction of Decoy Wood.

Christine’s car, a blue Toyota Yaris, was later located at a retail park car park in Pinewood area on Thursday, November 20.

Suffolk police found the body in woods close to Stratton Hall, near Levington following their extensive search assisted by drones, a police helicopter, specialist trained dogs from DK9 Search and Rescue charity and the coastguard.

The body is yet to be identified, however Christine’s family have been made aware of the finding. A file is being prepared for the coroner so formal identification can take place.
