Glasgow van and automobile engulfed in flames in suspected ‘wilful’ hearth assault

Police have initiated an investigation following the torching of two vehicles, including a business van, in an early morning incident.

Emergency services rushed to Banton Place, in the east end, after the “wilful” fire was reported in the early hours of Monday, 24 November.

A video of the incident shared with Glasgow Live captures the moment both vehicles were set ablaze. A figure clad in dark attire is seen dousing a red car and a white van in fuel before they suddenly erupt into flames.

The culprit, seemingly wearing black shoes, white socks, a slim puffer jacket with a hoodie underneath, and what appear to be joggers, is then seen scarpering from the scene.

The owner of AA Yardsmen expressed his bewilderment as to why his van was targeted, leaving it ‘charred beyond recognition’, reports Glasgow Live.

He urged anyone with information to come forward. The business owner said: “My business is completely away at the moment.

“I have some gardening tools, but it’s the end of the season, so no work from that. I’ve no window cleaning equipment, my ladders, or anything like that along with the van.”

He added: “I’m a very small business with no issues or problems with anyone. I’ve only been trading for three years, so I’m nothing big.

“Never stepped on toes in business, so I can’t understand why the van would be a target.”

He concluded: “I just want to know why it was done. As I said, I’ve not got any issues or grievances with anyone.”

They added: “The fires are being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
