Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in suspected connection to a shooting in Sheffield as another boy fights for his life in hospital.

The teenager has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and remains in custody.

The 16-year-old victim was shot on London Road on Monday, November 24 and police rushed to the scene at about 5.15pm. He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

The Sheffield road was busy with rush-hour traffic at the time of the incident. Residents told The Mirror that gun crime used to be a unique occurrence but has worsened in the area.

“Gun crime, and violent crime has no place in South Yorkshire, and the fact that a young boy is fighting for his life is appalling and will not be tolerated,” South Yorkshire Police Sheffield Superintendent Martin Simcock said.

Detectives, officers and forensic teams have been in the area to secure evidence and police urged the public to assist with information.

“This boy and his family deserve answers, and we are committed to getting them,” Simcock said.

London Road was still closed on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 25.
