Teenager, 16, is left preventing for his life after being shot on Sheffield avenue

A 16-year-old is fighting for his life after being shot on a street in Sheffield.

The teenager was found with a gunshot wound by police after reports of a shooting at 5.17pm on Monday on London Road, Sheffield.

The boy is currently in hospital and remains in a life-threatening condition, South Yorkshire Police confirmed.

His family are aware of the incident and are with him. 

Officers are carrying out extensive enquiries to hunt down those responsible and there will be increased police patrols in the area.

They urged anyone with information to get in contact with police.

London Road is partly closed with emergency services at the scene, while disruption is expected throughout Tuesday morning as forensic enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight said: ‘This a is terrible incident that has left a boy fighting for his life and I know those in our community will be deeply concerned.
