Trump Pardons Turkeys, Nursing Home Fraudster And Crudely Attacks Illinois Gov.

President Donald Trump veered off course during the presidential turkey pardoning ceremony Tuesday to level a series of crude insults at Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, whom he repeatedly called “a big, fat slob.”

“We could make Chicago a safe city in a period of four weeks,” Trump said, beginning his rant in the White House’s Rose Garden. “In a period of eight weeks, nine weeks, 10 weeks, it would be totally safe.”

“The mayor is incompetent, and the governor is a big, fat slob,” he added.

The president then boasted about having a “very cute” joke he could tell about Pritzker and then applauded himself for not telling it because it’s about his weight.

“I don’t talk about people being fat,” he continued, repeatedly doing the thing he claimed to not be doing.

He kept talking: “I refuse to talk about the fact that he’s a fat slob.”

Then he mentioned: “I don’t mention it.”

Without so much of an ounce of self-reflection, Trump then earnestly called on Americans to “renew our faith in God’s providence” as they “enjoy the fellowship of family and friends” this holiday.

Gobble and Waddle, two turkeys from North Carolina, were then granted clemency at the 78th anniversary of the National Thanksgiving Turkey presentation.

The turkeys were among several pardons this month: Trump also pardoned Joseph Schwartz, a nursing home tycoon convicted of fraud, after the man paid nearly $1 million to lobbyists who appealed to the Trump administration on his behalf, The Washington Post reported this weekend.

Trump on Tuesday couldn’t resist making more bizarre jokes and got in a line about considering extrajudicially sending the turkeys to CECOT, a megaprison in El Salvador known for its brutal treatment of detainees.

Trump also got in a dig at his predecessor, President Joe Biden, whom he’s accused of using an autopen to sign pardons, which, Trump argues, renders them null and void. (It’s an odd argument — Trump has also used an autopen.)

“[Biden] used an autopen last year for the turkeys’ pardon,” Trump said. “I have determined that last year’s turkey pardons are totally invalid, as are the pardons of almost every other person.”

The president then stared down Attorney General Pam Bondi in the crowd and asked, “What are you going to do about that, Pam?”
