Prince William has revealed his kids “love” classic comedy Fawlty Towers.

The royal, 43, said Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, were recently introduced to the hit BBC sitcom.

And Wills revealed his family’s love for the programme to John Cleese, who played hapless hotel boss Basil Fawlty in the show. It comes just weeks after the tragic death of Prunella Scales, who played Sybil Fawlty.

He told him: “My children have just discovered Fawlty Towers, they literally love it, we’ve been having a lot of family laughs.”

The prince added he had been “reminiscing” and “reliving” the show “all over again with the children watching”.

He admitted: “It’s brilliant”. The pair spoke at the Tusk Conservation Awards in London.

William is the royal patron of the Tusk Trust and spent time with ambassadors John and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, 78, ahead of the ceremony, which honours workers safeguarding Africa’s animals and habitats.

It comes after actor John, 80, launched a fresh swipe at the BBC, claiming it is letting the public down with its dire modern comedy shows.

He told the Radio Times in September: “They’re not nurturing talent. Young writers go and see this clown and assume, as he is the one who commissions the programmes, he knows what he’s doing.

“The people in charge now have no idea at all. The writers deserve better than this. The British people deserve better than this.”

John also admitted he still needs to work aged 85 because he “doesn’t have much money”.

The Monty Python icon said he’s only now able to choose what he wants to do rather than going for the best paid gigs after a “terrible” battle paying off ex-wives.

On his split from American ex Alyce Faye Eichelberger, he said: “You know how much I had to pay? Just under £20m.

“Have you ever given anyone £20m? I had five properties; three had to be sold and she got the other two.

“It’s been a terrible struggle to get back. It’s only now, this year, when I can start to do things because I’m interested in them, rather than because I need the money.”
