“Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation,” warning migrants – even those with green cards or US citizenship that they “won’t be here for long!”
Donald Trump announced a huge ramp-up in his plan for mass deportations of even legal migrants to the US in response to the Washington DC shooting.
The attack, which left one National Guard troop dead and another fighting for his life, was allegedly committed by Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national allowed into the US following the fall of Kabul in 2021. Lakanwal applied for asylum last year and was granted it this April, after Trump’s return to the Oval Office.
But Trump has sought to blame predecessor Joe Biden’s decision to rescue thousands of Afghans fleeing the Taliban takeover, allowing them to stay in the US temporarily while they applied for asylum. And in a late-night flurry of posts on Truth Social, he confirmed his response would not be restricted to those he held responsible for the shooting – but to any migrant community he feels is “undermining” America.
“Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation,” he wrote. “Other than that HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder and destroy everything that America stands for – you won’t be here for long!”
He lashed out at the Somali community in Minnesota, which had nothing to do with the attack. Using the outdated term “third world countries”, the US President announced a “pause” on migration from certain parts of the world – during which the US would seek to remove anyone who is not a “net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country.” He said all federal benefits to non-citizens would be scrapped, and that even citizens could have their status revoked if they “undermine domestic tranquility.” He went on to say his plan for mass deportations would be expanded to include “any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilisation.”
Trump confirmed specifically that those who hold “green card” permanent residency status would not be exempt from the purge. In the lengthy screed, Trump claimed the world considered America “STUPID” for being “politically correct” about immigration. He claimed that “most” foreign-born US residents – who make up around 15% of the population – are “on welfare, from failed nations or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels.”
This claim has no basis in fact. In fact, a 2023 study found immigrants are 60% less likely to be incarcerated than people born in the US.
He branded Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, “seriously retarded” for allowing a Somalian community to “completely take over his state. This is also untrue. Around 80,000 Somali people live in Minnesota, out of a population of 5.7 million people – making them less than 1.5% of the total. Even in the large ‘Twin Cities’ area of Minneapolis, St Paul and Bloomington, where the vast majority of Somali Minnesotans live, they make up just 1.7% of the population.
He viciously attacked Ilhan Omar, a sitting member of Congress from Minnesota with a Somali background, saying she was “always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the USA illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our Country, its Constitution, and how “badly” she is treated, when her place of origin is a decadent, backward, and crime ridden nation, which is essentially not even a country.”
Ms Omar came to the US with her family, who legally claimed asylum in 1995, when she was 14. She became a US citizen in 2000, when she was 17. She was not married when she was granted citizenship.
