Heartfelt tributes have flooded in for a Hull teenager who tragically died earlier this month.

Poppy Johnson, who was studying at Bangor University, passed away in her sleep aged 18 on November 16. Loved ones have remembered the youngster as a “total legend”.

She gave her time to Bridlington Animal Park as a volunteer and was pursuing Primatology studies at university. A funeral notice described Poppy as a “loving Daughter of Kay and Richard. Amazing and caring sister of Joseph. Dearly loved granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend to many”.

Bridlington Animal Park released a statement saying: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share some incredibly sad news. For the last two years, we have had the absolute pleasure and privilege of welcoming a wonderful young lady named Poppy into our team during her college work experience. Even after completing her required hours, Poppy chose to continue volunteering with us – not because she had to, but because she genuinely cared.

“Poppy was everything you could hope for in a volunteer and a friend. She was hardworking, dedicated, knowledgeable, and wise beyond her years. She brought a calm and kind presence to every day, and her passion for animals shone through in everything she did.”, reports Yorkshire Live.

“In September, Poppy followed her dream and left to begin her studies at Bangor University, where she was working towards a degree in primatology. Her ambition was clear from day one – she wanted to dedicate her life to working with primates, and we never doubted that she would achieve exactly that.

“She was driven, determined, and full of potential. Tragically, we received the devastating news that Poppy passed away suddenly in her sleep last weekend.

“There are no words to describe the sorrow we feel. Losing someone so bright, so caring, and so young is impossible to comprehend. Our hearts are completely broken, and we are thinking of her family with love and deepest sympathy during this unimaginable time. Poppy – you will forever be missed.

“By us, by all the animals you helped, and by the animals you were destined to protect in the future. The world has lost not only a beautiful soul, but a future force for good.

“Thank you for everything you gave, for every moment of kindness, and for the joy you brought with you. Rest in peace, Poppy. You will never be forgotten.”
