Man, 25, dies after falling from Sowerby Bridge flats as police make arrest

A 25-year-old man has tragically died after plummeting from height at a tower block of flats in Sowerby.

Eyewitnesses took to Facebook reporting they spotted a Yorkshire Air Ambulance circling above the scene at Tower Hill, Sowerby Bridge, while a substantial police cordon could be seen sealing off access to the residential block.

Crime Scene Investigators were observed on the ninth floor of the building following Thursday’s incident on November 27. It has now emerged that the 25-year-old who “fell from height” succumbed to catastrophic injuries on Thursday evening. A 37-year-old man was detained on suspicion of assault, reports Yorkshire Live.

In a statement released by West Yorkshire Police, officers have urged anyone with information to “come forward”.

The statement read: “Police were called at 10.06am yesterday (November 27) to a block of flats on Tower Hill, Sowerby Bridge, to reports a person had fallen from a height.

“A 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital. Sadly, the man died from his injuries in the hospital yesterday evening. Officers arrested a 37 year old man on suspicion of a section 18 assault, he remains in police custody at this time. The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained. Calderdale CID are continuing to carry out enquiries.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police via 101 or use the live chat facility, quoting log 476 of November 27.

Meanwhile, a man has been arrested at a major UK airport in connection with the horror attack at a synagogue in Manchester.

Police made the arrest as the passenger arrived on a inbound flight at Manchester Airport at around 12pm on Thursday.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism in relation to the Heaton Park synagogue attack last month.

Jihad Al Shamie attended the synagogue before conducted a horrific attack on the morning of October 2 this year.

His victims Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz both sadly died after suffering serious injuries.
