Caution: Do not show this article to your cat, it’s extremely dangerous as they might elevate their already high quality of life expectations, manipulate you into forced labour, and potentially even call you “poor”.

This couple may inspire you into transforming your once-basic home into a luxurious penthouse specifically for felines. Living in New York City, Derek and Sarah turned their tiny one-bedroom flat into a luxury playground for their two beloved kittens, Lox and Lottie.

By cleverly using every inch of their modest space, from window perches with street views to a converted storage cubby “cat penthouse”, Derek and Sarah have proved you don’t need a mansion to give your pets the royal treatment.

The pair, keen to expand their family, popped into Meow Parlour, a rescue cat café, and instantly fell for a pair of 12-week-old bonded kittens, Lox and Lottie. The adorable duo were “as cuddly as they were playful”, and it was love at first sight.

Determined to give their new arrivals the best life possible, Derek and Sarah spent hours glued to YouTube, searching for tips on how to keep cats happy in a small space, the Dodo reported. The couple subsequently focused on the most impressive part of their flat: the huge windows overlooking the bustling city streets.

“We love the windows — that’s what we centered the design around,” Derek told the Dodo. When Lox and Lottie first arrived, they reportedly immediately went to check out those big windows.

As per the Dodo, Sarah started by putting blankets on the ledges, but soon upgraded to plush cushions. To keep things interesting, the couple even attached a clear bird feeder outside one window.

“It’s their biggest source of entertainment,” Sarah said.

“They’re constantly just playing with the pigeons [and] pawing at them.”

Additionally, in what doubles as their office and cat playroom, Derek and Sarah transformed a storage space above the closet, once used to store suitcases, into a cosy little cat penthouse.

“They love it,” Derek said. “They sleep up there, they play up there.”

The space reassembles a shrunken human flat as the former suitcase storage encompasses a miniature living room complete with a framed pigeon painting, a tiny lamp, a cat-sized sofa, and scratch-pad flooring.
