A fun moment behind bars took a serious turn after a video of a prison officer battling a lag at FIFA was posted online with an illicit phone
A prison officer appeared this week in a video playing a football game with an inmate present in his cell. The questionable footage reportedly shows a colleague standing behind the gamer guard, and a crowd of inmates coming to watch the action.
In the video, everyone seemingly appears to be having fun. Nevertheless, the clip was seemingly shared by a prisoner on TikTok using an illicit phone – leaving Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick fuming.
“Prison is supposed to be for punishment,” he raged. “It’s not a holiday camp.” The video is also just the latest forbidden footage to reveal the secret lives of lags after a shocking clip revealed a female prison officer’s sex romp with a burglar.
The new contrversial video shows the guard playing a FIFA-style game with prisoner in his cell. Meanwhile, a colleague stands behind watching and up to three other inmates are crowded inside to view the match.
The prisoner who shared the footage on TikTok shows the uniformed officer leaving with the caption “He try run”.
Government sources told The Sun newspaper that the guard had done nothing wrong because playing video games can help build relationships and tackle jail violence. However, inmates are not allowed mobile phones and definitely shouldn’t be posting anything online.
An inmate at HMP Wandsworth filmed a female guard having sex with a burglar last year, sparking fears that prisoners would try to film copycat footage.
Isabelle Dale, a prison officer at HMP Coldingley known as “Miss Sneaky”, then caused more red faces at the Ministry of Justice with a four-minute sex session with a robber in a prayer room.
The jail in the latest incident has not been identified but the ministry is reportedly investigating. It has had the clip and social media account removed from TikTok after being tipped off by The Sun.
While government sources insist the guard did nothing wrong by playing video games to help build relationships with inmates and tackle prison violence, the Tory Shadow Justice Secretary put the prison service on blast.
“Prison is supposed to be for punishment,” said Robert Jenrick.
“It’s not a holiday camp. Something is badly wrong when female officers are sleeping with inmates and male officers are playing FIFA in their cells. Why would a criminal fear going to prison any more?”
The Ministry of Justice told the Sun that it had taken action: “We removed these posts immediately and are investigating. Those who break prison rules will be punished and can face extra time behind bars.”
