The decision comes after Ordinary Andy was removed from royal duties by his brother the King due to his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein
Shamed Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been stripped of his last remaining royal titles – officially making him a commoner. The disgraced former royal, 65, has had his membership of the Order of the Garter formally cancelled by angry big brother King Charles III.
His status as a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order has also been revoked amid claims his eviction from Royal Lodge has been pushed back due to difficulties downsizing.
The orders – agreed on October 30 – were announced in the London Gazette at midday on Monday. The notice reads: “THE KING has directed that the appointment of Andrew Albert Christian Edward MOUNTBATTEN-WINDSOR to be a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, dated 23 April 2006, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.
“THE KING has directed that the appointment of Andrew Albert Christian Edward MOUNTBATTEN-WINDSOR to be a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, dated 19 February 2011, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”
Andrew’s coat of arms has been removed from St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
The decision comes after Andrew was previously removed from royal duties due to what were described as “serious lapses of judgment” in relation to his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew, who lost the titles of Prince and Duke of York in October, denies any wrongdoing.
The latest action followed the release of the late Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, in which she accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager, as well as newly published documents from Epstein’s estate.
The Met Police is also reviewing allegations that Andrew passed Giuffre’s date of birth and social security number to his taxpayer-funded protection officer in 2011 and requested an investigation.
Andrew strongly denies any involvement in or awareness of Epstein’s crimes.
In an unexpected announcement in October, Buckingham Palace said: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.
“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”
He is expected to relocate to the Sandringham estate from February, due to the delay, while his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, 66, will seek alternative accommodation privately.
