The ever-tasteful Trumps have unveiled their Christmas decorations which includes all the usual festive favourites such as a tree, lights… and a painting of the President’s assassination attempt
Melania Trump has unveiled the White House Christmas decorations which includes an 18ft fir tree – next to a painting of her husband’s assassination attempt which killed a supporter.
The painting – depicting the bloodied US President fist-pumping towards the crowd as he’s ushered away by Secret Service staff – features as part of ever-tasteful Trumps festive display. The First Lady “chose every detail of the decor”, the White House said.
Several dozen volunteer decorators from across the country helped deck the halls of the Executive Mansion with 75 wreaths, 51 Christmas trees, more than 700 feet of garland, more than 2,000 strands of lights and 25,000 feet of ribbon.
It also features more than 2,800 gold stars, 10,000 butterflies and 120 pounds of gingerbread as part of the “Home Is Where the Heart Is” theme.
Trees in the East Room are trimmed in red, white and blue and national symbols, including golden eagle tree toppers in a garish nod to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the US.
Pictures from the official unveiling reveal a painting of President Trump, depicting the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania during his campaign, hangs in the Cross Hall of the White House, which is lined with Christmas trees.
Trump was shot and wounded in his right ear in July 2024 as he gave a speech at an open-air campaign rally. A Trump supporter in the audience was killed in the assassination attempt and two others were left critically injured.
Thomas Crooks, 20, shot eight rounds in total from an AR-15-style rifle from the rooftop of a nearby building. He was shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper.
A press photo of Trump raising his fist and shouting “fight, fight, fight” as he was whisked away by agents has become one of the most iconic images in recent history.
Elsewhere in the White House, a Lego portrait of the President decorates the Green Room as part of this year’s Christmas decorations. A Lego portrait of former President George Washington also features.
According to the White House, the official Christmas Tree is an 18-foot concolor fir from Sidney, Michigan. It commemorates Gold Star Families with gold stars and ornaments representing the official bird and flower of every US state and territory.
A statement read: “In every community, we are lifted by simple acts of kindness that reflect the enduring American spirit of generosity, patriotism, and gratitude. These moments remind us that the heart of America is strong and that Home Is Where The Heart Is.”
A gingerbread White House, on display in the State Dining Room, shows off the mansion’s South Portico and offers a glimpse into the Yellow Oval Room, a sitting room off the Truman Balcony in the president’s private living quarters on the second floor.
It was made using 120 pounds of gingerbread, 100 pounds of pastillage, a sugar-based modelling paste, over 10 pounds of chocolate and 5 pounds of royal icing.
