David Brown, 40, launched a ‘cowardly attack’ on a disabled man in a mobility scooter in a pub beer garden by stubbing a cigarette out in his eye
Shocking cctv of man stubbing cigarette in disabled man’s eye
The horrifying moment a thug stubbed a cigarette out in a disabled man’s eye was caught on CCTV. The “cowardly attack” by David Brown happened in a pub beer garden.
The 40-year-old lunged at the victim who was in a mobility scooter, pressing the lit cigarette into his face. In the ensuing chaos, the victim was knocked off his scooter and a scuffle broke out on the ground before other patrons of the pub stepped in. The shocking episode unfolded at a pub on South Street, Hucknall, Notts, around 8pm on December 29, 2023, reports Birmingham Live.
Brown, from Long Hill Rise, Hucknall, pleaded not guilty to the charge but was convicted of committing grievous bodily harm with intent following a trial in October this year.
He received a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, November 28. The court heard that the victim, a man in his 30s, was left physically disabled due to an accident at work. As a result of Brown’s brutal assault, he sustained severe injuries to his right eye and has reported ongoing vision problems requiring repeated hospital visits.
After the sentencing, PC Oskar Sereda of Nottinghamshire Police stated: “It is believed Brown and the victim had previously had a fall out about money.
“However, Brown’s cowardly attack that night was unprovoked and took place as soon as the victim entered the premises. It is difficult to imagine the pain he must have suffered during the incident and the emotional and physical impact upon him has been lasting.
“He no longer feels safe living in Hucknall and his parents have suffered considerable financial impact since the incident through time off work to look after their son.
“I’d like to thank the people in the pub that evening who rushed to help the victim and keep Brown away from him before officers were called to the scene.
“I’d also like to commend all my colleagues who assisted with the investigation.”
The news comes after we reported how CCTV footage captured the shocking moment a man was savagely assaulted with a pool cue inside a Livingston pub. The terrifying incident, which occurred at the Tower Bar in Craigshill on November, 8 reportedly left the staff deeply upset.
The video shows a group of men enjoying a game of pool before the situation suddenly turns violent. A man in a green top is seen stepping away from the pool table when another man, dressed in red, violently swings a pool cue at his head.
As the cue strikes his skull, the victim collapses to the floor while the attacker nonchalantly discards the cue. The assailant is then seen looming over the fallen victim, uttering words that are not audible in the footage.
