  • Virgin Media has been fined £23.8m by Ofcom.
  • The telecom giant put vulnerable customers at “direct risk of harm” when moving them to digital landlines in 2023, the watchdog said.
  • It said the firm failed to properly identify the status of its “telecare” customers, who have alarm systems that connect to a monitoring service – meaning they did not have the right support.
  • Ofcom’s Ian Strawhorne said: “It’s unacceptable that vulnerable customers were put at direct risk of harm.”
  • A Virgin spokesman said it has updated its procedures since 2023.
