The ‘Cold Moon’ will be easy to spot tonight (December 4) and you cannot miss this one. It will mark the highest and last sighting of a Supermoon until 2042, here’s what you need to know…
An epic Supermoon sighting is happening in the UK on December 4 and it’s too special to miss. Here is everything you need to know…
- Supermoons have been the talk of the town this year with a number of sightings happening in the UK. It’s been exciting year for Brits, and astrologists, after many managed to catch the Blood Moon lunar eclipse. On Sunday (September 7), millions had the chance to see the Moon light up in a brilliant red hue.
- Now the highest and last Supermoon of 2025 is happening tonight (11:14pm GMT) and people living in the UK will most certainly be able to spot it. Called the Cold Moon, this phenomenon is arriving when winter temperatures have dropped across the world, reports Royal Museums Greenwich.
- This Cold Moon is due to rise in the northeast on Thursday (December 4) at around 3pm, then will set in the north west at around 9am the following morning. This means it will be visible before sunset through to sunrise on Friday.
- Tonight’s sighting is a special one for many reasons, one being down to a rare 18.6-year cycle called the Major Lunar Standstill which means this Moon will climb higher in the Northern Hemisphere, than any other Full Moon this year. And we won’t see our Moon reach this altitude again now until 2042.
- The Cold Moon sighting also marks the grand final of the 2025 Supermoons. It comes as the Blood Moon was spotted in the UK as the Moon turned red on September 7.
- Want to catch the Supermoon tonight? In the UK, more specifically London, people should be able to spot it at 11:14pm GMT, while our friends across the pond in New York might see it at 6:14pm EST.
