Prince Harry appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to participate in a comedy sketch about his search for an audition to become a “Christmas prince” in a Hallmark movie
The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, took a humorous jab at Donald Trump during an unexpected appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, referring to the US President as a “king” in a succinct 7-word takedown. Harry featured in a comedy sketch that aired on Wednesday night, where he played himself auditioning for the role of a Hallmark movie “Christmas prince”.
In the segment, the duke humorously roamed around the studio, claiming he got lost while looking for an audition for the “Gingerbread Christmas Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska”, just days after his first speaking part in Meghan Markle’s Netflix series was revealed.
When questioned by Colbert about why a real prince would want to star in such films, Harry responded: “You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?”
When Colbert challenged the notion of an American “obsession,” Harry retorted: “Really? I hear you elected a king,” seemingly alluding to the “No Kings” protests aimed at the Trump administration.
In light of CBS’ recent settlement with Mr Trump, the duke jested that he would “do anything” to secure the part, stating: “I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House – all the things you people in TV do.”
To this, Colbert responded: “Hey, I didn’t do any of those things,” only for Harry to counter: “Maybe that’s why you’re cancelled.”, reports the Express.
The sketch then transitioned into a festive spectacle, complete with Christmas trees and the sound of sleigh bells, as Harry encouraged Colbert to “just believe”.
Colbert later announced to Harry that he had secured the position of “official Late Show prince of Christmas”, much to the delight of the audience.
The duo initially hinted at the guest appearance in a video released on Wednesday, which included a viral soundbite from the Great British Bake Off.
Joining Colbert were other esteemed guests, including Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon and Irish actress-cum-singer Jessie Buckley.
Wednesday’s visit marked the Duke’s second appearance on the Late Show, following his initial appearance in January 2023 to promote his memoir, Spare.
Harry’s debut on the show set a two-year viewership record and garnered international media attention.
The Duchess of Sussex also shared news of Wednesday night’s appearance, offering a sneak peek of the clip on her Instagram story.
Since announcing their decision to step back as working members of the Royal family in January 2020, Harry and Meghan have been raising their children in Montecito, California.
