A UK university has had to be evacuated this afternoon (December 5) as emergency services deal with a major incident.
The University of Plymouth building has been closed and surrounding roads while the fire service attended a reported “chemical leak” at around 3:32pm.
Around eight engines and multiple police cars are outside the university’s Davy Building near The Box museum on North Hill.
Road closures are expected to remain in place in the area for some time.
According to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, all students and staff were successfully evacuated and accounted for.
There has been no word on if anyone has been injured as a result of the chemical leak.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue told PlymouthLive: “We are currently responding to a chemical leak inside the University of Plymouth’s Davy Building.
“There are eight appliances at the scene, along with some specialist appliances. The building has been evacuated, and all persons have been accounted for.”
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We are currently assisting our fire colleagues with traffic management for an incident at the University of Plymouth Davy Building at Drake Circus, Plymouth.
“A road closure at the bottom of North Hill will likely remain in place for some time and motorists are asked to avoid the area.”
