A car fire has caused the M25 to be blocked with traffic held on Saturday (December 6). The vehicle blaze occurred on the M25 clockwise. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to car fire on M25 clockwise from J26 A121 (Waltham Abbey) to J27 (M11 Interchange).

“Traffic was held just before 13:45,” reports Essex Live. The car, believed to be a Porsche burst into flames sending thick plumes of smoke billowing across the carriageway.

One person stuck in traffic told EssexLive they had not moved for 20 minutes. National Highways said diversions have been put in place.

The road is currently closed clockwise between J25 at Waltham Cross and J27 for the M11. Traffic cameras show the fire has been extinguished.

The fire service is at the scene and has been contacted for more information. There are large queues and long delays as a result of the fire and subsequent road closure.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

Diversion Route

Traffic should follow the route marked with a hollow triangle symbol on local road signs:

  • From the M25 J25 exit slip roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A10 towards London.
  • Follow the A10 to ‘Great Cambridge Junction’ and take the 1st exit onto the A406 ‘North Circular Road’ towards the M11, Walthamstow and Edmonton.
  • At M11 junction 4 keep in the middle lane and then take the link road onto the M11 towards Cambridge.
  • Take the exit at M11 junction 6, M25 junction 7 and bear right to rejoin the M25 towards the Dartford Crossing.
