Police are extremely concerned for two men who were seen entering the River Hull in East Yorkshire last night (December 5) after a short pursuit involving their vehicle
A search operation is underway for two men who were spotted entering the River Hull yesterday evening. The pair had been travelling in a car with a faulty rear light when officers tried to pull them over.
Humberside Police confirmed there was a “short pursuit” before the vehicle collided with a wall on Charlotte Street, reports Hull Live. Both men are believed to have gone into the River Hull at approximately 8.30pm.
Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth, who is overseeing the search operation, said: “Following reports of two men entering the water, a search was immediately launched to locate and identify them.
“We are extremely concerned for their welfare and are conducting extensive lines of enquiries in an attempt to identify and locate them, so far this has included searches by our patrol officers, the Coastguard, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and our specialist Underwater Search Team.”
A helicopter arrived on the scene around 9:33pm last night. Data from Flight Radar showed it circling the River Humber for about one hour before returning to Humberside Airport.
DI Crawforth said residents should expect an increased police presence in the area over the weekend whilst the search operation continues. If anybody knows the men, or think they know somebody who went missing yesterday, they are asked to contact the police straight away.
Anybody with footage, CCTV, or a doorbell camera, or anyone who was a witnesses in the area at the time, should contact police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 461 of 5 December.
