Brody is a massive Pyrenean Mountain Dog who weighs 66kg and stands six feet tall on his hind legs – and Animal Concern Cumbria is preparing to find him a new home
An animal rescue centre is on the hunt for a new home for one of its largest ever residents – a dog that’s ‘the size of a small polar bear. Brody, a white Pyrenean Mountain Dog, tips the scales at a hefty 66kg and towers to six feet when standing on his hind legs.
This six year old pooch can wolf down 1kg of dog biscuits in just one day. The team at Animal Concern Cumbria reveal that his favourite treats are fish pate and squirty cheese, and he’s partial to a good head scratch and lounging on his owner.
Lauren Pickthall, 32, the Animal Rehoming Manager, shares that Brody was surrendered by his previous owner who felt they could “no longer give him the attention he deserved”.
Pyrenean Mountain Dogs were originally bred as livestock guardians, tasked with protecting flocks from wolves and bears. Lauren mentioned that Brody is currently under assessment and has enjoyed a full de-matting spa day to restore Brody “into the glorious mountain fluff he’s meant to be”.
The animal enthusiast described: “Brody is so calm, relaxed, friendly, gentle. “He is a senior boy now so he only requires a couple of 30-minute walks a day. He loves a tennis ball and being in the company of other people.
“At the moment he is currently being tested around other dogs, people, children, and different environments so we can safely allow him to be adopted by the best new owner when the time comes.”
Interestingly, Lauren disclosed that Brody isn’t the largest canine they’ve encountered, having previously rehomed an 88kg Mastiff Cross named Khan.
Lauren explained that prospective owners should have experience with large dog breeds and possess a sizeable outdoor space where he can “tootle” about.
She added that they’ll require a sofa big enough to accommodate him. Brody isn’t currently up for adoption, though the charity confirms he will be once his assessment concludes in a fortnight.
When he becomes available, his details will appear on their website alongside Facebook and Instagram.
Lauren remarked: “Stay tuned for updates as he prepares for homing . . .preferably with someone who doesn’t mind being occasionally sat on by a small polar bear.”
