Private jet aborts landing at Belfast City Airport
This is the moment a skilled pilot battled Storm Bram at Belfast City Airport as Northern Ireland was battered by strong Orange Warning level gusts.
The jet could be seen approaching the runway but clearly being pummelled by Storm Bram as the pilot attempted to touch down today (December 9).
And – with just feet to go before touchdown – the pilot had to make the decision to abandon the landing attempt as the winds proved to be too strong to proceed with it.
Storm Bram is also impacting on flights at Dublin Airport today.
As of 12.00pm, a total of 73 flights have been cancelled by airlines, including 36 inbound and 37 outbound. Further disruption is possible later today as wind speeds are expected to increase.
In a post on social media, the airport said: “Strong winds are forecast for Dublin Airport over the course of the day, which has already resulted in airlines cancelling a number of flights.
“As of 7.45am, a total of 42 flights had been cancelled, including 21 inbound and 21 outbound. Further cancellations are possible later today as wind speeds are expected to increase.
“As always, passengers due to fly today should contact their airline directly for updates regarding the status of their flight.”
As always, passengers due to fly today should contact their airline directly for updates regarding the status of their flight, reports the Irish Mirror.
Approximately 54,000 homes, farms and businesses across the Republic of Ireland are without power as Storm Bram brings damaging winds to the island.
ESB Networks said the outages at 4pm were predominantly in counties Wexford, Cork, Tipperary, Kildare, Dublin, Meath and Westmeath.
With weather warnings still in place, the ESB said further power outages can be expected throughout the evening.
