Jamie Carragher is brutally mocked by Rio Ferdinand for ‘TV second of 2025’ as his eight-minute Mohamed Salah rant is ruthlessly shut down by Sky Sports colleague – and shocked James Maddison shares his response

Jamie Carragher has been brutally mocked by fans after being corrected by Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones less than 10 seconds into his rant about Mo Salah.

Supporters had been eagerly awaiting Monday Night Football after Salah criticised Carragher during his explosive interview following the Reds’ 3-3 draw against Leeds United on Saturday evening.

The Egyptian, who was an unused substitute on the night, claimed his and Arne Slot‘s relationship was ‘broken’ and that he’s been ‘thrown under the bus’ by the club while also claiming ‘Carragher is going to criticise me again, again and again.’

And the former Liverpool centre-half did just that during Sky’s coverage of Manchester United‘s 4-1 win at Wolves, describing Salah’s interview as a ‘disgrace’.

However his rant didn’t get off to the best of starts as Carragher, shaking his head, began, ‘Have I ever criticised Mo Salah on the pitch?’, before being interrupted by Jones who pointed out, ‘Well, a couple of weeks ago you said his legs were gone’.

It was an exchange which viewers found hilarious, with Rio Ferdinand even retweeting a post describing it as ‘the best television moment of 2025.’

Carragher was giving his thoughts on the explosive interview given by the Egyptian at Elland Road on Saturday

Carragher’s co-pundit for the evening, Spurs star James Maddison, also took to social media to give his thoughts on the Liverpool legend’s rant.

Sharing a selfie of himself looking shocked on Instagram, Maddison wrote: ‘Watching that Jamie Carragher rant live (laughing emoji).’

Carragher indeed did not hold back in his criticism of Salah, arguing his decision to speak to the press in Elland Road’s mixed zone was calculated.

‘Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst, I do not think it was,’ the pundit and columnist said.

‘I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he’s done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it is choreographed by him and his agent to cause maximum damage and to strengthen his own position.

‘He did that 12 months ago and I called him out on this show about it. He played on the heartstrings of the Liverpool supporters.

‘Liverpool were top of the league and he’d scored the winning goal at Southampton. That was the time to come out and put pressure on the Liverpool ownership. For the rest of the season you have banners in the crowd saying ‘Give Mo his dough’.

‘He’s chosen this weekend to do this now and he’s waited for a bad result, they’ve conceded a last minute goal. The Liverpool supporters, the manager, the whole club feels like it is in the gutter at the moment, and he’s chosen that time to go for the manager and maybe try and get him sacked.

Salah accused Liverpool of ‘throwing him under the bus’ amid the club’s early-season woes

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Salah described the interview as a ‘disgrace’

‘That’s the way I felt about it.

‘The line that stands out for me is “thrown under the bus”. He’s tried to throw the club under the bus twice in the last 12 months with the situations just mentioned.

‘Going after the owners initially, and these are owners who have been paying him hundreds of thousands of pounds for six years, he’s complained a year ago because they hadn’t given him a new contract at the age of 32. The club are more than entitled to do that.’

Salah has trained with Liverpool at their AXA Training Centre base since his outburst but is understood to have been left out of the club’s squad to face Inter Milan in the Champions League tonight.

It is thought senior figures at the Merseyside club, including manager Slot, feel a short period out of the squad is in the best interests of all parties.

The 33-year-old signed a two-year mega-money deal, which runs until summer 2027, earlier this season. Clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States and now Europe are on red alert over his future.

Salah however refused to answer a question about interest from the Middle East.

‘I could not believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes,’ he said. ‘That’s the third time. It’s the first time in my career I think.

‘(I am) very disappointed, I have done so much for this club over the years, especially last season. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I feel.

‘Someone wants me to get all the blame. The club promised me a lot in summer. Now I’m on the bench so I can say they haven’t kept those promises.

‘I used to have a good relationship (with manager Slot). Now we don’t have any relationship and I don’t know why.

The 33-year-old has however since been seen training with the squad at their AXA Training Centre

‘It seems like someone does not want me in the club.

‘I called my mum and dad and told them to come to the Brighton game. It doesn’t matter if I play or not. I’m going to enjoy it. I’m just going to be at Anfield and say goodbye to the fans before the African Cup of Nations, because I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.

‘It’s not acceptable to me to be fair. If I was somewhere else, every club would protect its players. Now, it’s “Throw Mo under the bus because he is a problem in a team”. I don’t think I am a problem.

‘I am not fighting for my position every day because I have earned it. I am not bigger than the club. I am not bigger than anything. But I have earned it.’
