The Food Standards Agency has issued an urgent recall for specific batches of Disaronno liqueur sold in England and Scotland due to possible glass contamination
A favourite Christmas tipple has been urgently recalled amid concerns it could contain shards of glass.
Some bottles of Disaronno has been swiftly removed from supermarket shelves following a recall notice issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on Tuesday. The warning applies to 700ml bottles sold in England and Scotland.
The FSA stated that Illva Saronno, the parent company of the brand, is recalling the product due to “the possible presence of small pieces of glass within some bottles of product, which could make it unsafe to drink”.
Seven batches potentially containing contaminated bottles have been identified, with the suspected contamination thought to be the result of an “anomaly on the bottle line”, according to the recall notice.
Customers are being urged to check the codes on the back of their bottles. The affected bottles bear the following codes: 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, 25444.
Anyone who has purchased the implicated product is advised not to consume it and to return it to the shop where it was bought for a refund or replacement. For further information, consumers can reach out to Illva Saronno S.p.A at: contatti@illva.com.
A similar recall notice for the product was issued in the Republic of Ireland on Monday, reports the Mirror.
The notice for Ireland said: “Batches of Disaronno Originale 500 Years in limited edition bottles are being recalled due to possible presence of micro-fragments of glass within the bottle. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.”
They said to look out for batches with the code 25371 and 25372.
