Forget hot vs cold, the next big breakfast debate has just dropped – and it involves your morning Weetabix.

New research has revealed that nearly 40% of Brits prefer their Weetabix mushy over crunchy. And people are ready to defend their serving of choice, with nearly a third (28%) of respondents saying they would be likely to debate the “right” way to eat your cereal.

The debate kicked off on social media with Weetabix asking followers how they prefer to eat the morning cereal, with research showing that Brits like it swimming in milk and mushy.

The research reveals that the nation prefers their Weetabix after they’ve drenched it in milk, and allowed the biscuits to break apart and become mushy. Others prefer minimum milk exposure, quickly eating the biscuits after adding milk to ensure they keep their crunch and neither side is backing down.

For those who favour mushy bix, Weetabix suggests letting the biscuits stand for around 81 seconds to achieve optimum softness. Crunch enthusiasts, however, keep milk levels low, around 125ml, to preserve that classic crisp crunch.

The study also uncovered that weather impacts our eating habits, as over 34% become more likely to enjoy their Weetabix mushy when temperatures drop.

The debate doesn’t end there, with time also becoming a divisive topic. 22% of Brits say they eat their Weetabix immediately, whilst conversely 17% admit to leaving it longer than 3 minutes to allow for the biscuits to break down to full mushiness.
