Police arrested a passenger following an incident onboard a Cathay Pacific service from Boston to Hong Kong – a man was later arrested on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance
Police have arrested a man after a plane passenger allegedly attempted to open a door mid-flight. A man in his 20s was arrested by Hong Kong police following an incident on a Cathay Pacific flight from Boston to Hong Kong on December 10.
The aircraft landed safely early on December 11 according to the airline who said no passengers or crew were injured. Hong Kong Police said they arrested a 20-year-old man from China on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance, The Sun reports.
A spokesperson for Cathay Pacific said: “Our cabin crew immediately attended to the situation, inspected the door to ensure it was securely closed, and reported the incident to the relevant authorities and the police.
“The case has been handed over to the police for investigation.
“At Cathay, the safety of our customers and crew guides every decision we make.”
The news comes after we reported how a Ryanair aircraft was grounded at Manchester Airport after a traveller allegedly attempted to “force open an emergency exit” during flight.
Fellow travellers intervened to restrain the woman and notified cabin staff, who subsequently summoned the flight’s captain, the eyewitness reported. The traveller was relocated from the emergency exit seat whilst the captain was required to monitor the exit area.
The aircraft was brought down and the woman in question was “led away from the aircraft by Greater Manchester Police”, the fellow traveller stated. Technical staff were subsequently called aboard to assess any damage and replace components.
Earlier this year another flight passenger had people thinking they were going to die after they allegedly attempted to open the cabin doors mid-flight – triggering mid-air mayhem before he was restrained.
Witness Oore Fabunmi, 25, was travelling from the Dominican Republic to London Gatwick when the man seated in front of her abruptly stood up and sprinted towards the front of the aircraft.
The next thing Oore heard were screams coming from the front of the plane as the man reportedly tried to open the cabin doors. Oore watched as other passengers attempted to restrain the man before TUI airline staff intervened to detain him.
