Medieval astrologer Nostradamus and Balkan clairvoyant Baba Vanga predicted 2025 would be a year of catastrophe and war – and their words are now being examined to see if they actually ring true
To quote modern day philosopher Liam Gallagher, 2025 has been a bit of “a bit of a topsy f*****g weird year” with wars, famine, climate crisis and the spiral of societal cohesion threatening to tear apart Western civilisation as we know it.
But how much of it was foreshadowed by the world’s top psychics? Both Nostradamus and Baba Vanga’s predictions are constantly held up to scrutiny when major world events seem to fit their premonitions.
French astrologer Nostradamus, real name Michel de Nostredame, recorded his prophecies in his 1555 text Les Prophéties, is said to have predicted the atomic bombs that were dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
And blind Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga died in 1996, but her prophecies are said to have included huge global events like the 9/11 terror attacks and even Brexit. Here, your Daily Star runs down their predictions for 2025.
Europe’s Cruel Wars
Michel de Nostredame made a whopping 942 forecasts based on the stars and according to those who’ve decoded his words, he eerily foretold a 2025 filled with disaster and conflict.
The French soothsayer ominously cautioned that ‘those from the lands of Europe’ would be caught up in ‘cruel wars’ and indicated that Britain might get dragged into it. As yet, the UK has not been directly involved in any ways.
But the UK has played a leading role in trying to facilitate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine and trying to keep US President Donald Trump onside after his blazing row with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ancient plague worse than enemies
Nostradamus is also said to have predicted: “The ancient plague will be worse than enemies.” We reported today how millions of Brits face travelling miles to get jabs for the superflu crippling the nation.
Demand is soaring as the H3N2 strain hospitalises 3,000 people a day and chemist stocks are running dry. Boffins have warned there is still no “peak in sight” amid fears this could be the worst flu season on record.
NHS England says hospitalisations surged by more than half in a week.
An end to the war between Ukraine and Russia
Nostradamus wrote: “Through long war all the army exhausted, so that they do not find money for the soldiers; instead of gold or silver, they will come to coin leather, Gallic brass, and the crescent sign of the Moon.”
Many interpreted this to refer to the bloody conflict in Ukraine, which started in 2022 when Mad Vlad’s troops invaded its neighbouring nation. But while both countries have seen their resources depleted, no end is in sight as yet, despite Trump’s peace plan proposals.
Natural disaster in Brazil
Nostradamus predicted Brazil would face volcanic eruptions and lethal floods, writing: “Garden of the world near the new city, In the path of the hollow mountains: It will be seized and plunged into the tub, forced to drink waters poisoned by sulphur.”
While some markers for Amazon degradation have improved slightly this year – for example, some sources report that deforestation and fires have decreased – the picture is mixed, with illegal mining and droughts having an ongoing negative effect
Humans to make contact with alien lifeforms
Blind prophetess Baba Vanga, who accurately foresaw her own demise six years before her death, warned envisioned an alien encounter and the mastery of telepathy by 2025.
While extra terrestrials are yet to make confirmed contact with us, mysterious interstellar visitor 3I/Atlas is hurtling towards Earth and is course to reach its closest point to us next week.
And one space boffin fears it could be an alien mothership which could pose a threat to humanity. Though spoon botherer Uri Geller insists they come in peace to save us from nuclear war.
Earthquakes that ravage the world
Before she died in 1996, the psychic predicted that 2025 would see earthquakes ravage the world.
There has been six deadly quakes this year, including a huge magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar which killed at least 5,456 people, causing damage in neighbouring countries in May.
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan killed more than 2,000 people in August while around 400 people died in Tibet when a 7.1 magnitude quake hit. Elsewhere, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Russia, the most powerful recorded for 14 years.
