Rio Ferdinand has called on Manchester United to sign Antoine Semenyo following his goal in Bournemouth’s thrilling 4-4 draw at Old Trafford. The Cherries’ forward scored the first equaliser on an absolutely bonkers Monday evening, extending his superb form this season.

The Bournemouth ace capitalised on Luke Shaw’s weak defending to burst clear and slot home via the inside of the post on 40 minutes. His effort levelled matters at 1-1 after United had bossed the early exchanges.

Semenyo has now notched seven Premier League goals this campaign and is generating plenty of transfer buzz ahead of January’s window opening. Top clubs including Liverpool and Manchester City are well aware that the Ghana international carries a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth deal.

However, ex-United centre-back Ferdinand is desperate for Semenyo to light up Old Trafford in red rather than Anfield or the Etihad, making his stance crystal clear on social media.

United posted: “Goal. Antoine Semenyo levels for the visitors.”

Ferdinand fired back: “Don’t let him leave after the game,” accompanied by a crying laughing emoji.

That represented just one of his numerous observations whilst watching the chaos encounter from his sofa. He was buzzing with the opening 45 minutes, which saw United head into the interval 2-1 ahead courtesy of strikes from Amad Diallo and Casemiro.

He penned: “Best 45 minutes under [Ruben] Amorim at Old Trafford… tempo, passing thru the lines, chances created. [Ayden] Heaven + [Lenny] Yoro looking assured. Lapse in focus for the goal, but reacted well!”.

Ferdinand might well feel let down regarding Semenyo, considering United splashed out more than £200million on Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo during the summer window. However, Ghana boss Otto Addo remains confident that Semenyo will secure his move away from Bournemouth before long.

“He has done very well at Bournemouth, but with all the respect for Bournemouth and what they’re doing, surely it is natural for him to take the next step,” he told The Athletic.

“Whether it’s in the winter or summer, it is a difference question but it won’t make a difference for us. I’m looking forward to him showing more of what he can to the world.”
