First announced back in May, the highly anticipated one-off event Corriedale brings together the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

Beloved characters from both shows are involved in a frightening car pile-up that will prove deadly.

A pulse-racing Corriedale trailer shows characters screaming in horror ahead of the landmark soap crossover hitting screens in the New Year.

On Monday, a 30 second preview was revealed exclusively during The Big Quiz, hosted by Stephen Mulhern.

In the aftermath of the multi vehicle smash, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) takes control of the situation as a frantic Carla Connor (Alison King) tries to calm someone down.

Emmerdale’s paramedic Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) tends to injured Corrie favourites David (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) at the side of the road.

Corrie’s trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) shares the screen with Emmerdale icon Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) as she tries to help more casualties.

There are two pregnant women involved in the dramatic scenes; namely Shona Platt and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).

Furthermore, Charity can be seen attempting to calm down a screaming Shona while both are in Hotten General Hospital.

As the trailer concludes, Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Abi (Sally Carman-Duttine) Webster search for Debbie (Sue Devaney) at the crash site.

Coronation Street star Alison King (L) and Vicky Myers (R) beamed as they posed together

Alison and Vicky were joined by Harriet Bibby, who plays Summer Spellman

Harriet looked chic in a brown mini skirt and knee high boots

Sally Carman turned heads in a green velvet dress and stilettos

Emmerdale stars Natalie J Robb and Chris Chittell, who play Moira Dingle and Eric Pollard, were all smiles as reunited on the red carpet

In addition this, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) desparately searches for Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) in the darkness alongside Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).

The special hour-long Corriedale installment will air at 8pm on January 5 – and unlike usual, it will not be dropped on ITVX earlier in the day.

Regular half hour episodes of each soap will be shown earlier, Emmerdale 7pm and Coronation Street 7.30pm – and these will drop on ITVX at 7am that morning.

New Coronation Street characters confirmed for the drama include Kit, Carla and Asha, as well as James Bailey (Jason Callender).

As for Emmerdale, their new additions include Cain, Charity, Robert, Jacob and Joe, as well as Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).

They all join the previously announced David Platt, Aaron Dingle, Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

The special episode is a celebration of the soap genre and will launch ITV’s new ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

The new sneak peek comes following fans first being treated to an explosive Corriedale trailer earlier this month.

At the time Corriedale was first announced, ITV said: ‘The distinctive worlds of Emmerdale and Coronation Street will merge for one night only in a ‘mash-up’ of our two favourite communities.

‘The producers, scriptwriters and production teams have conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, but with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire.

‘The episode will be self-contained, but the consequences of the high-stakes drama will have repercussions for both communities and see them linked forever as familiar faces depart and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps.’

Iain MacLeod, ITV Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, said at the time: “It’s beyond exciting that filming is underway on Corriedale.

‘There is a massive buzz around both the Leeds and Manchester sites, and the images coming out of the shoot are utterly spectacular.

‘And that’s before we’ve even got to all the brilliant transpennine interactions between characters from the different shows!

‘As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year.

‘It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable.’

Filming for special started back in October.
