Footballer dies in horror crash as league difficulty assertion on ‘devastating blow’

A young footballer has died after suffering devastating injuries in a horror motorbike crash.

Wilmer Antonio López Campos, a promising player for Club Sitraterco, was killed in a tragic collision in the early hours of Saturday morning (13 December). The 22-year-old was rushed to the Honduran Social Security Institute after losing control of his motorcycle shortly after midnight.

However, he would tragically lose his life when doctors were unable to save him. Initial reports suggested Wilmer may have been involved in an illegal street race but his family has strongly denied the claims. The incident happened in San Pedro Sula, Cortés, Honduras.

Locals in the area said they were jolted awake by the sound of a violent crash before emergency services arrived at the scene, as reported by NeedtoKnow.

The Carlos A. Turnbull Major League released a statement after his death expressing its deep sorrow over the loss of an active Sitraterco Club player.

“The Carlos A. Turmbull Major League expresses its deepest sadness at the passing of Wilmer Antonio López Campos, an active player for the Sitraterco Club.

“His departure leaves a significant void in the sports community,” the Board of Directors said in a statement.

Friends, teammates, and fans have flooded social media with tributes and messages of condolence. Alejandro posted one of Wilmer’s’ last videos, showing him riding his motorcycle. He wrote: “Dream big, no matter how small your start is.”

Others s have also paid tribute to the young footballer on social media: “You were at the field yesterday watching the game… Rest in peace, my friend Wilmer, I’ll miss you. A cheerful person, always smiling. It’s hard to believe…”

And another added: “I deeply regret the irreparable loss of our friend Wilmer López, a young man full of life… My deepest condolences to the Campos family.”
