Travis Head makes eye-opening prediction about how drunk followers will get at Adelaide Ashes Test

  • Felt many fans will be intoxicated by stumps
  • Some supporters arrived at the ground by 7.30am

Aussie cult hero Travis Head has loudly questioned how many fans will visit Adelaide’s bars and restaurants following a full day on the beers at the cricket.

Head, 31, wanted to see his home state host a day-night Test – and believes some supporters will be too intoxicated to add to the local economy come stumps each day.

‘I see the gates will open 7.30am Wednesday morning, so I think everyone will be enjoying themselves by the first ball….and I don’t know if many people will actually be fit to go to the restaurants by the end of the day,’ he told Fairfax.

‘He (Premier Peter Malinauskas) is big on the Adelaide Test match being a day Test match to get everyone into the restaurants and the bars and whatnot, but [a] 7.30am open gate and a day Test match…with the pace that’s set out the back, we’ll see how many of them actually make it out to dinner.’

Head added he is ‘looking forward to the week’ and was delighted to hear most days at Adelaide Oval are sold out.

In chaotic scenes, Steve Smith was ruled out ahead of day one, with the superstar batsman suffering from ‘nausea and dizziness.’

Smith, 36, warmed up on Adelaide Oval ahead of day one, but left the stadium a dejected figure following a brief chat with coach Andrew McDonald.

The veteran has battled vertigo-like symptoms previously.

‘Steve Smith was ruled out of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide today. Over the past few days he has been feeling unwell, with symptoms including nausea and dizziness,’ a Cricket Australia statement read.

‘He was assessed and monitored closely and was close to being available to play.

‘However, given the persistence of symptoms, a decision was made not to proceed.

‘He is being treated for a potential vestibular issue. This is something Steve has experienced intermittently in the past and is being managed accordingly.

‘He is expected to be available for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.’

Usman Khawaja was drafted into the XI to replace Smith – and responded with an unbeaten half-century.

The hosts only need to draw the third Test to secure the Ashes urn.
