An aircraft has plummeted from the sky near an airport in North Carolina, with multiple fatalities reported by police.
Statesville Regional Airport confirmed: “We can confirm there has been an aircraft incident at the Statesville Regional Airport. At approximately 10:15am, an aircraft crashed while landing.”
Eyewitness accounts reported that they saw the plane drop from sky before crashing near the runway. Video shows the site of the wreckage, with a massive plume of grey and black smoke filling the air.

The airplane crashed at Statesville Regional Airport around 10.15am local time – 3.15pm UK time – on December 18. It was not immediately known exactly how many people were aboard the plane.
A picture from the airport showed the plane in a massive ball of flames after it crashed.
According to the city of Statesville’s website, the airport is city-owned and provides corporate aviation facilities for Fortune 500 companies and several NASCAR teams.
Witnesses who were at nearby Lakewood Golf Club said the plane was flying ‘way to low’ before it crashed.
Images showed the inferno ripping through the Cessna jet – which can cost as much as $2.5 million – as thick black smoke was seen blanketing the air.
