Wife and lover jailed 19 years for plotting murder: What you need to know
- Unfaithful wife Michelle Mills and her lover, ex-marine Geraint Berry, 46, were both jailed for 19 years for conspiracy to murder Michelle’s husband, Christopher Mills.
- The pair plotted the murder to claim a £124,000 life insurance policy and continue their affair. Their three-month relationship was kept secret, during which they shared fantasies about killing Mr Mills.
- Berry recruited Steven Thomas to assist in the attack at a static caravan in Cenarth, Carmarthenshire, on September 20 last year.
- Mr Mills was attacked by the masked men who were armed with imitation handguns, but he managed to fight them off before they fled; his wife then falsely reported the incident to the police.
- Michelle Mills was jailed for 19 years and also received an 18-month concurrent sentence for perverting the course of justice. Berry was also jailed for 19 years and was sentenced for possession of an imitation firearm.
- Thomas was handed a 12-month sentence for possessing an imitation firearm, the time of which has been served while on remand.
- Deleted text messages between Mills and Berry, which Mills deleted but Berry did not, were presented as key evidence, revealing the plot’s “chilling reality.”
- Mr Mills was left with serious psychological harm from the attack and his wife’s betrayal, suffering from anxiety, a loss of trust, lasting scars, and needing hearing aids.
