The full English breakfast is the UK’s No1 hangover cure. A study found Brits reckon a fry-up is the best remedy for getting over the after-effects of boozing.

The greasy feast, which typically includes eggs, bacon, sausages and other fried titbits, featured most in Brits’ online posts on bouncing back from a big night out. While online discussions relating to the full English as a hangover cure are up by 37% year-on-year.

It comes after the brekkie blowout topped previous polls as our hangover go-to, suggesting boozy Brits rely on trusted morning-after antidotes rather than trendy newcomers like smashed avocado on rye. The sausage sarnie came second, with almost 30% more interest than a year ago, followed by bubble and squeak, Peperami and Pot Noodle.

While the top 10 is rounded off by vodka and tomato juice cocktail, the Bloody Mary, alcohol-free beer, wine or gin, ginger beer, pineapple juice or coconut water. A spokeswoman for consumer intelligence platform Tastewise, which analysed web data, said: ” Christmas holiday hangovers are inevitable.

“With Christmas party season about to kick off, millions of Brits are gearing up for late nights, bad decisions and even worse hangovers. Tastewise, a consumer intelligence platform, scraped through trillions of social media posts and online recipes to unveil the most sure-fire hangover foods Britons swear by to bounce back after the big night out.”

She added: “The full English breakfast tops the list, remaining Britain’s undisputed hangover remedy. The meal is up 37% year-on-year in consumer discussions because nothing sorts you out faster than a plate that looks like it could power a small village.”
