Desperate darts chiefs have issued an SOS for more beer amid worries fans will drink the Alexandra Palace dry as they down a record 600,000 pints at the World Championships.

Brewers are rushing an extra 125,000 pints of Amstel to the London host venue after barmen feared running out as fancy dress revellers go wild. It comes after boozy fans aimed an X-rated chant at Keir Starmer.

Teams are delivering lorry loads of fresh kegs of the 4.1% lager to the Ally Pally daily to keep up with demand.

An Alexandra Palace staff member said: “The amount of beer drunk for the darts is unreal. We order more as we don’t want to run out.”

A total of 475,000 pints were knocked back at last year’s tournament, but 125,000 more will be supped this year as the event is four days longer, stretching from December 11 to January 3.

A source at brewer Heineken said: “We’re sending a lot of Amstel to the darts.”

A PDC spokesperson said: “We expect around 600,000 pints to be sold over the 20 days of the tournament. Alexandra Palace is receiving daily deliveries to ensure they have sufficient beer supplies.

“This year’s event is longer than in previous years, so there is a higher total of pints being sold.

“Darts has become renowned as having the best atmosphere in sport and plans are determined to enjoy their day.”
