I think one of my most memorable moments covering the Ukraine war was when I visited a training camp in England last year.
The base was hosting dozens of fresh Ukrainian recruits who were going through a crash course in soldiering. If you can survive five weeks, the thinking goes, then you’ve probably learned enough to look after yourself.
