EXCLUSIVE: Peter Crouch has begged Manchester City’s robotic striker Erling Haaland ‘don’t come for me’ after the in-form star posts snaps of celebration dance moves online
Erling Haaland is locked in a robot war with Peter Crouch – over the iconic automated goal celebration dance.
The Manchester City star performed his version of ‘The Robot’ with team mates Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders after netting two in the club’s 3-0 Premier League victory over West Ham.
Haaland, 25, posted a photo of the trio in action on X along with three robot emojis. Fans loved it hailing the frontman – who has netted 104 goals in 114 appearances and is chasing down Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League scoring record – a ‘machine’. One posted a half-man, half-robot meme.
But Crouch, 44, who was famous for his own robot celebration during his playing career, sent Haaland a message begging him not to steal his thunder.
The ex-Liverpool, Spurs, Aston Villa, Burnley and England striker tweeted: “You can come for Shearer that’s fine but pls don’t come for me. It’s all I have. I’ve got nothing left.”
He then posted an ‘I’ve got nothing left’ meme from BBC soap EastEnders.
Ex-Newcastle United striker Mick Quinn, 63, replied with a laughing emoji. One fan messaged: “Robot wars!”
Another posted footage of the star doing his own dance along with the message: “The Robot will always be yours Crouchy!”
Others reminded the England ace that at 6ft 7in he is 2in taller than his rival – and he is the one married to stunning TV presenter, Victoria’s Secret model and Strictly champion Abbey Clancy, 39.
One said: “You reached greater heights Peter. That’s something Haaland can never catch up to.” Another added: “You’ll always be the bigger man.” One more said: “You’re also taller than him! And you have an Abbey!”
Crouch’s robot was voted the second best goal celebration of all time in a poll of 2,000 fans by OLBG.
