TGI Fridays on brink of administration days earlier than Christmas – see listing of all 49 shops

TGI Fridays UK parent company Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group has filed notice to appoint administrators for the second time in weeks, affecting 49 locations and 2,000 staff

TGI Fridays, a well-known restaurant chain with 49 branches across the UK, is teetering on the edge of administration. Its UK parent company, Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group, filed a notice to appoint administrators for the second time in just a few weeks. The notice was filed on December 19.

This move halts debt collection, allowing the company some breathing space to formulate a rescue plan. Phil Broad, president of TGI Fridays international franchising, confirmed: “The Directors of TGI Fridays UK can confirm that a notice of intent to appoint administrators was filed with the court.”

He added: “This step brings the new owners, who assumed control last month, closer to securing and strengthening the long-term future of TGI Fridays in the UK.”

Mr Broad emphasised that the priority now is to keep the company’s 2,000 staff members in their jobs, reports the Express.

TGI Fridays bosses did have some good news for customers as they confirmed despite the news, that all TGI Fridays restaurants will remain open over Christmas.

The chain came over from the US following its popularity and has been a staple in UK since 1986.

TGI Fridays also collapsed into administration back in September and put 87 restaurants up for sale.
