The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to California in 2020 after stepping back from their duties as working members of the royal family and plan to spend Christmas together with their children
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to spend Christmas at home in California but could face a washout – as a major storm is forecast to hit their neighbourhood.
A community group in their US hometown of Montecito issued a weather warning to locals in an email on Friday night.
It said: “The National Weather Service is forecasting a major storm for Santa Barbara County that is expected to occur Tuesday, December 23 through Thursday, December 25.
“The following conditions are possible countywide: flooding in low-lying areas, dangerous flash flooding, strong winds. Evacuations are NOT being issued at this time.
“Public safety officials are monitoring the incoming storm and will continue to assess if protective actions, such as an evacuation warning, evacuation order, or shelter in place are necessary.”
Harry, 41, looked relaxed last week as he enjoyed a lads’ ski trip in Aspen, Colorado, with pal Nacho Figueras.
The pair were dressed ready for action, with the Duke wearing a mauve ski jacket with a blue contrasting zip and black ski pants with matching boots.
Harry’s wife Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, did not join him on the trip, but the family are set to spend Christmas at home in Montecito, Hello Magazine reported.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to California in 2020 after stepping back from their duties as working members of the royal family.
In a Netflix special aired earlier this month, Meghan revealed the couple enjoyed opening British Christmas crackers and that she cooks a Christmas Eve gumbo made from a recipe created by her mum Doria Ragland.
Harry tastes a bit in the episode and quips: “I can feel it puncturing through the top of my head right now. It’s delicious—I’m not so sure it’s as good as your mom’s, but it’s certainly close.”
Montecito typically has balmy highs of 21C in December, compared to 10C here in Harry’s homeland. The area has been hit by catastrophic weather in the past, including in January 2018, when 23 people were killed in a mudslide after a fire and heavy rain.
The storm warning a came just hours after Harry and Meghan shared a new family photo of themselves with their children alongside a Christmas message.
